Economic Justice is a core value of a beloved community. One of Dr. King's dreams was a partnership linking faith groups, organized labor, individual working people and the community in general. We have organized extensive community –based and faith-based support of active struggles for worker justice, such as in the K-Mart labor struggle, the Smithfield Worker’s Campaign, and the ongoing Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) struggle. Since January 2009, BCC has expanded our struggle for economic justice to actively promote jobs and economic development within underserved communities by pursuing equity and justice in President Obama’s American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.

We also have built partnerships with organizations including the Farm Labor Organizing Committee in our work to ensure the just and humane treatment of farm laborers and to bring justice to U.S. immigration policies. Since the face of poverty and our economy’s underclass is black and increasingly brown, we’re also focusing energy on fostering deep, respectful relationships between Black and Brown people to allow for more effective collective action.
