by Erica Mayo
Mar. 14, 2008
[Erica Mayo recently interviewed neighbor Vincent Sims about his recent transition into housing and sobriety. We give thanks for Vincent's courageous journey!]
EM: What has changed in your life in the past year?
Vincent: I have been a chronic substance abuser and I was homeless for numerous years. For the past five yrs I visited the Beloved Community Center Hospitality House which provided food, clothing, showers and encouragement. I was fortunate enough to be asked to commit myself to Preventing Chronic Illnesses Preventing Homelessness in Greensboro and High Point. I was asked to attend by the Chief Executive of Urban Ministries of Greensboro.
EM: What happened when you went?
Vincent: Family Services of Piedmont works with me and Mental Health agency All stars. Since then I am clean and no longer homeless. I work a substance abuse program at the ringer outpatient center with Mrs. Rebecca Austin. I continue to be thankful for the Beloved Community Center for all that it has done and given me comfort through my homeless years. Thanks to the friendship between staff, Ms. Terry Speed, and Reverend Johnson I am proud to say to God be the glory for all that he has done.
