Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Greetings!  The Beloved Community Center of Greensboro (BCC) wishes for you, your family, and your friends a most joyful and productive holiday season.  We know this letter is one of many worthy appeals you have received.  We hope you will honor ours and as many as you can.

Oh what a year; what an extraordi-nary period in history!  The election of the first African American President and a rapidly expanding economic crisis can arguably be termed, "the best of times and the worst of times."  As we slip deeper into this economic crisis, the greatness of Greensboro and the nation will be reflected in our creativity, along with the compassion and care we show for each other.  We have the historic opportunity to raise the level of humanity itself.

We at the BCC have been at the forefront of providing needed services, while organizing for compassionate and enduring individual and social change for nearly 18 years.  As you read through the attached PDF End of the Year Summar about our organizing efforts with homeless people, youth and "gang" members, immigrants, and those who work every day but cannot make ends meet, we hope we have earned your trust and that you will be moved to make a generous donation.

As you might imagine, the need for funds to continue our work has significantly increased.  We are hopeful of raising $40,000 through this year's direct appeals.  Your contribution of any amount will be greatly appreciated.  To facilitate your gift, you can make a donation online at our BCC website at http://www.belovedcommunitycenter.org/. Your financial support, volunteer services, and active participation on all levels will help the beloved community culture spread throughout our city and the nation.

Finally, we invite you to learn more about us through visiting and exploring our website or signing up to receive our electronic newsletter at info@belovedcommunitycenter.org.  We also invite you to join us any Wednesday from 1:00 until 3:00 in the afternoon for our weekly BCC Wednesday Community Discussion Table.  There you will meet the entire BCC staff, a number of volunteers, as well as people who feel a need to be in conversation with others about current issues and working together to improve the quality of life in our city and nation.  Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely yours,

Patricia Priest, Chairperson

Nelson N. Johnson, Executive Director

Z. Holler, Chairperson Emeritus

Joyce H. Johnson, Jubilee Institute Director
