2007 End of Year Report
by the Beloved Community Center
Jan. 16, 2008
2007 was a year of great challenges and significant accomplishments at the Beloved Community Center. We were challenged to continue living out the vision of beloved community, seeking to transform ourselves, social structures and systems all along the way. A major accomplishment was the historic visit of a delegation of 23 people to South Africa in November, 2007.
Pictured above are two members of the BCC delegation, Joyce Johnson and Rev. Jean Rodenbough, with Mrs. Leah Tutu, wife of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who graciously hosted us at her home in Soweto. With the assistance of Ms. Naomi Tutu, the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, we had meetings with seven agencies and key individuals that are energetically carrying out the work of the South African Truth process ten years after the TRC Report. We also participated in two live radio programs and visited many historical sites. On another front of work, 2007 was the year of our first BCC community garden. Partnering with Erica Bratz and Wray Norwood, neighbors of the hospitality house worked together to grow tomatoes, okra, beans, eggplants, summer squash, sage and zucchini. Pictured below is part of the Hospitality House Garden. Turn the page as we seek to tell the 2007 BCC story in pictures and words.
