[After preaching at New Light Baptist Church, Rev. Jesse Jackson along with several area pastors including host pastor Rev. Cardes Brown and the BCC's Rev. Nelson Johnson to address the media. He shared a wide range of views, including his sense that the Truth and Reconciliation process is growing as a useful tool for acheiving racial justice in our communities. When asked by a self-identified Quaker how to strengthen the relationship between the African-American and white communities, Jackson responded that the African-American community viewed the Truth and Reconciliation process as a major concern and encouraged whites to support the effort.]
Nearly 40 years have passed since Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tenn. The memory remains fresh for the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
"It never gets far from my mind," Jackson said of the assassination, which he witnessed.
Friday will be the 40th anniversary of King's death.
Jackson, an A&T alumnus, spoke Sunday to a congregation that packed the pews at New Light Baptist Church. Jackson was in town for the weekend inauguration of Bennett College President Julianne Malveaux....
